Hey [Participant First Name],

Thanks for your willingness to participate in our research study. Please read this email carefully as it contains important information you need to know for this project.

Complete by: [Time] on [Date]

Compensation: [Details of Compensation]

For this research study, you will be using the free Participate app by Lookback, available from the App Store. This will record anything displayed on your screen as well as your front-facing camera and microphone feed.

Before your session:

  • Download the Participate app from the Google Play Store.

  • Close any other apps, websites, and notifications with sensitive info like passwords etc.

  • Check to make sure you're on a strong WiFi connection (not cellular). We recommend a speed of at least 5Mbps up and down.

When you're ready to begin:

  1. Since there will not be a moderator to guide you through the test, and you will be completing the test in your own time, it's important that we can hear and understand you, as we won't be able to ask questions during the test. Please speak aloud throughout the study so we can gather your thoughts and perspectives.

  2. Open up this link: [Tasks/SelfTest Link]

  3. Follow the instructions in the video below. You can also review this help article for step-by-step instructions.

Things to keep in mind during the session:

  • Again, be prepared to talk aloud about what you’re thinking and experiencing as you complete tasks.

  • You have to be in the Participate App to end the call so if you're in a different app, you’ll have to switch back to the Participate App first.

Things to keep in mind after your session

  • Once your session ends, you’ll need to return to the Participate app to end the session and call. Please use your device's application switcher feature to re-open the Participate app and end the call

  • You can uninstall the Participate app after your session.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to chatting with you!

Thanks,
[Researcher’s First Name]
