Why can't I see the participant's face and screen touches/taps while testing an iOS/iPadOS App?

When the participant's face and screen touches/taps are recorded during iOS sessions

Written by Henrik Mattsson

On iOS and iPadOS, the participant's screen touches/taps are only captured while the participant is testing a URL-based prototype or website within Lookback's Participate App. The front-facing camera (aka selfie cam) is captured within Lookback's Participate App and in some cases outside it.

When the Participate App is backgrounded - that is, when the participant navigates away from Participate to another app, like Spotify - the screen touches/taps are paused due to Apple's privacy restrictions. These will be resumed, however, when the participant navigates back to the Participate app.

While the Participate App is backgrounded we show a PiP (Picture In Picture) window, if settings allow. While this PiP window is visible we continue capturing the front-facing camera. If the PiP window is collapsed we stop capturing the front-facing camera, this is a system limitation.
