The Lookback Slack app posts your live sessions to a Slack channel, so your team can follow research as it happens. Everyone in the channel can watch the session live, and play the recording when it ends, without leaving Slack. Lookback public links you paste into Slack also unfurl into playable videos.
Access requirements
The Slack app is available on all plan types.
An Owner or Admin connects your organization's Slack workspace.
Public links must be enabled for your organization, since Lookback shares each session through a public link.
Lookback can only post to public channels.
When to use Slack notifications
Use Slack notifications when you want to:
let your team and stakeholders know when a session goes live
make it easy to drop in and watch a session as it happens
share recordings, findings and highlight reels where your team already talks
How to connect Slack
Connecting Slack takes two steps: an Owner or Admin connects your organization's Slack workspace once, and then each Project chooses a channel to post to.
Connect your Slack workspace
Click the user menu in the top right and choose Organization settings.
Under Slack integration, click Connect Slack.
In Slack, review the permissions and click Allow.
Organization settings now shows Connected to the [workspace] Slack workspace.
Choose a channel for a Project
Open the Project and click Settings in the left panel.
Under Slack notifications, select a channel.
Lookback joins the channel automatically. Each Project posts to one channel, and several Projects can share a channel.
What gets posted
When a session starts, Lookback posts it to the Project's channel, with a video to watch it live:
Moderated sessions: "Anna is moderating a live session with Noa", once the moderator has joined
Unmoderated sessions: "A session with Noa just started"
The post updates automatically:
when a different moderator takes over
when the session ends: "Anna moderated a live session with Noa"
when the recording's thumbnail is ready (until then, it shows the same tile as the session in Lookback)
Practice sessions (previews) are never posted.
Sharing recordings, findings and highlight reels
Paste a Lookback public link into any Slack channel, and it unfurls into a video your team can play right there. If you paste a link to a recording that isn't public yet, Lookback sends you a private message with a button to create a public link.
Privacy and access
Posts include the participant's name, and everyone in the channel can see it.
Lookback creates a public link for each session it posts, or reuses the one the session already has. Anyone with the link can watch, like any Guest. Revoke the link in Lookback to stop the video playing in Slack.
Links to part of a recording, such as a finding, show the recording's tile, never a frame from the session.
Turning Slack notifications off
For one Project: in the Project's Settings, set the Slack channel to None.
For your whole organization: in Organization settings > Slack integration, click Disconnect workspace. All Projects stop posting.
From Slack: uninstalling the Lookback app also disconnects it. If you remove Lookback from a channel or archive the channel, Projects posting there stop.
Posts already in Slack stay where they are.
Troubleshooting
If a session wasn't posted, check that:
the Project has a Slack channel selected
public links are enabled for your organization
Lookback is still a member of the channel
the session wasn't a practice session
If you still have questions, reach out using the chat bubble in the lower right-hand corner or email support@lookback.io.
